The National Redress Scheme (NRS) has been set up to help people who suffered sexual abuse in Australian institutions, for example, Churches, Salvation Army, Scouts, YMCA, Commonwealth and State gain access to counselling, a direct personal response and a Redress payment.
The scheme acknowledges the damage that has been done to people as children; and holds the institutions accountable.
This free and confidential service is located in our Karratha, Roebourne and South Hedland office and services to the whole of the Pilbara.
The Redress service is free and confidential. The Redress support workers are here to help survivors of sexual abuse understand the Scheme, talk about feelings and guide them through the whole application process.
The Redress Support workers can:
- be someone to talk to;
- give you information about the scheme and answer your questions;
- help you fill out an application; and
- help you understand your redress outcome.
It is important to note that the Scheme will only run for 10 years, until 1 July 2028.
