History

The Pilbara Community Legal Service Inc. began in a small single office in Newman in 1993.  A Regional office was established in Hedland under the auspices of the Pilbara Social Justice Council to address a number of needs established by a working party who lobbied hard for funding.  They conducted a number of forums over a period of four years to address a growing concern related to social justice issues, including consumer credit, tenancy and family law.

A single office was subsequently established in the township of Roebourne with outreach to Karratha, an area with a rapidly expanding community responding to economic attractions of the resource companies.

Over the last eight years the socio economic demands and the shortage of housing which failed to keep pace with the community demands has seen as expansions of the services.
